ZAHA HADID FOR ERNESTOMEDA

The partnership with Zaha Hadid was a crucial phase in Ernestomeda’s history.

In Z.ISLAND, she applied her design approach to the kitchen, to create a “smart” space able to respond to the desires of the senses through multimedia solutions incorporated in elegant, fluid surfaces. Ernestomeda rose to the challenge of this pioneering project and brought its technical and manufacturing know-how to bear to translate Zaha Hadid’s vision into a fully engineered kitchen. A project of immense stature, exhibited at the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 2006 as part of a major retrospective on Zaha Hadid’s work, presenting projects undertaken right around the world.

“The starting point for this kitchen was a series of formal studies on concepts of fluidity and monolithic appearance, which originated from the observation of natural phenomena such as the melting of ice or the movements of glaciers and their moraines.”
