Ernestomeda’s genuine commitment to the environment

This year, the theme of United Nations  world environment day -is “Restoring ecosystems” with the aim of preventing, stopping and reversing the damage caused to the planet’s ecosystems, or in other words of switching from exploiting nature to healing it. The Day also officially launches the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, introduced with the global mission of bringing billions of hectares back to life, from forests to farmland, and from the summits of mountains to the depths of the sea.

For Ernestomeda, the issue of sustainability does not only relate to one day; it is a genuine commitment, actively pursued every day, and is actually included in the company’s core values and part of its future objectives. This is the origin of the  EMvironment project: the desire to reinforce a responsible, active attitude to the environment and pursue truly eco-sustainable development, achieved step by step.

This is what Ernestomeda has achieved so far:

1) HIGH LEVEL OF PRODUCT CIRCULARITY (CERTIFIED BY COSMOB)

Ernestomeda components may achieve up to  99% product circularity. An impressive result - certified by Cosmob (the technological centre specifically for the wood and furniture industry) - confirming that the resources used in the production process will become available again for reuse.

2) ERNESTOMEDA USES 100% GREEN ENERGY.

The photovoltaic plant covers all 16,000 square metres of our facility, enabling us to transform the energy emitted by the sun into electricity used to power all our industrial operations. When there is less solar energy available, we also use green energy from renewable sources (certified by COFER).

3) UNI EN ISO 14001 ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATION

A major form of certification that regulates all factors with environmental impact, such as monitoring of energy consumption, atmospheric emissions, waste management, etc.

4) ECODESIGN AND LCA ANALYSIS

The environmental sustainability of a product or process originates mainly in the design phase through the LCA (Product Life Cycle Assessment). Ernestomeda has defined its own “Ecodesign” procedure, in order to offer the markets products and materials with the least possible environmental impact, from intelligent design to the efficient use of resources and raw materials, through to the end-of-life disposal of the product.

5) USE OF ENVIRONMENT-FRIENDLY (RECYCLED) PANEL.

For the carcases of its kitchen furnishings, Ernestomeda uses IDROLEB, the environment-friendly, extremely water-repellent panel with the lowest formaldehyde emissions. The environment-friendly panel is made from 100% post-consumer wood.

6) USE OF MATERIALS WITH EXTREMELY LOW EMISSIONS OF FORMALDEHYDE AND OTHER VOCS (CERTIFIED AND COSMOB LABEL)

Ernestomeda monitors emissions through regular, continual checks on both the product and the production process.

7) AN ERNESTOMEDA LASTS LONGER.

Ernestomeda products are designed to last over time. Therefore, Ernestomeda makes spare parts available in the long term, and provides detailed care and cleaning instructions to guarantee its products a long life.

Small steps but of major importance, in the deeply held belief that change depends on the active commitment of every one of us.
