CASTIGLIA ASSOCIATI FOR ERNESTOMEDA

Studio Castiglia Associati played a major role in the company’s early years, designing some of the key collections through which Ernestomeda expressed its quality and its ground-breaking use of forms.

For Ernestomeda, the firm designed a number of kitchens that can still be defined as modern today. A very fruitful relationship, which began  with the FLUTE programme. This project had an attractive dual personality, combining classical cherry wood framed doors with modern thick steel worktops and open units.

Two more collections, VILLAGE and VERVE, were launched in 1998 and 1999 respectively. The former - in what proved to be a foretaste of future trends - featured units intended to lead into the living area, while the latter, with groove strips, was simple yet very stylish in design. In 2000, Studio Castiglia designed two more projects for Ernestomeda, SUPREME and ROYAL: although very different, these two collections again shared the framed door concept. In this case, as for the Flute programme, Studio Castiglia’s design achieved iconic status in its clever combination of features associated with traditional, classical kitchens, such as the use of wood and the framed doors, with more modern inputs like steel and slim worktops, creating a vibrant contrast between materials.

2003 saw the launch of SEVENTY, a pop kitchen, its name evoking the years of the cultural revolution and the explosion of colour, the central characteristic of this kitchen designed by Studio Castiglia. A programme that marked a break with the past, based on a large number of shades in laminate, the ideal material for expressing the project’s colours and personality to the full.

The association with Studio Castiglia ended in 2005, with the launch of FUSION. This collection, which reached out into the living area, still focused on providing a functional kitchen but featured islands or peninsulas surrounded by separator walls to which snacktops could be connected. Its very elegant design was based on the use of dark oak doors.

Castiglia Associati played a role of primary importance for Ernestomeda, defining a style which was to be maintained for years and designing collections with historic status.
